Electric Fields to Cure Cancer?

An electric fields are a field of forces that act on and attract bodies that have an electric charge. A good visual for an electric field is gravity: a spaceship returns to Earth, and the astronauts feel the attraction between the spaceship and the Earth as the ship comes closer to the surface.
ReplyDeleteScientists externally place transducers and attach them to a field generator to create a field on a cellular space station. When the cellular space station is within the electric field, it acts on the highly charged proteins and prevents those proteins from making chains to divide into daughter cells. The daughter cells either do a suicide or create unhealthy daughter cells which do apoptosis.
A benefit is not suffering any of the side effects that are expected in the other treatments. Another is the treatment does not interfere with daily activities, including working on the computer.
As described in the TED talk, an electric field is a field of forces similar to a gravitational field, but instead of acting on masses, it acts on charges. This property can be demonstrated by polarization, in which a charged object is able to separate the forces in a neutral object by means of displacing the electrons.
ReplyDeleteTTF therapy works by fastening electrodes to the surface of the skin in the area that needs treatment by means of an adhesive. The electrodes form an electric field that treats tumors by preventing cellular division. It does this by taking advantage of the rapid cell division that cancerous cells employ. When any cell, cancerous or otherwise divides, it does so by using highly charged proteins to divide the chromosomes between the two new cells. TTF works by disrupting those proteins, causing the cell to either rupture, or form in an unstable and dying state. Even though the field kills regular cells, it does so only during cell division. Since cancer cells divide much more frequently than healthy cells, the damage done to healthy cells takes place over an even distribution rather than a targeted area, and the damage is negligible.
Some of the benefits of TTF, are that it is noninvasive, it doesn't cause a symptomatic response, it doesn't damage the immune system, it is relatively cheap, and work can continue as usual with no recovery period. Some of the downsides are that it takes much longer than other therapies to determine if it is effective, and it is a passive therapy, that doesn't attack the cells until they reproduce, whereas chemo and radiation are aimed at killing the cancer before it can divide. This is why the Harvard Research Institute is looking at using TTF in conjunction with other methods to stop the cancer faster.

No side effects suffered by chemotherapy patients appear in patients under TTF. Benefits of TTF's are numerous. They have no effect on normal undividing cells. TTF's do not cause the same side effects as chemotherapy, but have the same positive effect on chemotherapy.The therapy is delivered continuously without having to visit a hospital, except for the first visit.

ReplyDeleteTransducers are placed on on the surface of the affected area, and given an electrical current. This messes with the process of mitosis in cancer cells, and makes most, if not all of the cancer cells, melt away, as they can no longer reproduce or reproduce healthily.
Using electric fields to cure cancer is beneficial because it allows the patient the freedom from the side effects of conventional cancer treatments, and allows them to live their lives out while being treated painlessly at the same time. This treatment greatly increases the quality of life for the cancer patient.

He places transducers externally and attaches them to a field generator which creates an artificial electric field. It acts on the highly charged proteins that cause chains of rapid tumor growth, and aligns them, so the cancer proteins cannot be transferred into the new cell or create the chains. Then the cells cannot complete a successful division and will die or enter a another deathlike process: apoptosis.
With this treatment, the TTF patients suffer none of the side-effects of patients with other treatment methods. These patients have had no pain, no infections, no fatigue, or other expected effects. It was the first time for cancer treatments, that the FDA included a quality of life claim in their approval. With TTF, a patient can continue through daily life administering the treatment on their own without going in, without any limitations, and without a recovery period.

These transducers create an artificial electric field which act upon the charged proteins and prevents them from creating the chains that allow cell division. After unsuccessful division, the cells either kill themselves or create unhealthy daughter cells that undergo apoptosis. In general, the treatment simply prevents cells from dividing.
Using the Tumor Treating Fields to cure cancer is beneficial because the patient does not undergo any of the side-effects caused by conventional treatments. The electric fields from the transducers react with the highly charged special proteins that are in the body’s cells, which are required for cell divisions. These cells would usually undergo a sequence where they form into chains that attach to genetic material and pull the genetic material into 2 separate cells, that’s how cancer cells multiply. When those multiplying cells are in the electric field, the charge from the transducers act on the charged proteins in the cells by preventing them to separate. They attempt to divide but they either can’t at all or they are very slow.
There are many benefits of using TTF (tumor treating fields) rather than Chemo, Radiation, or surgery. One benefit is that it is a non-invasive treatment, the patients don’t have to have regular trips to the hospital and the patients can do it themselves. There are also the benefits of it not making the patient tired or having any of the painful sensations, and the therapy can be delivered continuously throughout the day.

This changes the process of dividing and mitosis in the cells which causes the tumor to melt away, slowly but there have been cases where it all disappeared.
Traditional radiation and chemo can cause many side effects and a lot of discomfort. This therapy increases quality of life for many patients and can greatly increase their life span. This treatment is also non invasive so patients can continue to live their normal lives and administer their own treatment.

ReplyDelete2. Since electric fields attract electrical charge, they are used to align highly charged proteins. This in turn prevents the proteins from dividing cells (the spreading of cancer cells). The cells, now with no protein chain, attempt to divide without success for several hours. During the unsuccessful division, the cells are either killed or form unhealthy daughter cells that stay in a dying state. Tumor Treating Fields come into play with all this because they create the electric fields that stop the cell division/making of more cancer cells. They are externally attached to a field generator in the area of the tumor to create the electric field which then prevents cellular division and gets rid of the tumor.
3. When looking at the other traditional cancer treatments, Tumor Treating Fields are revolutionary. They not only have no effect on normal, undividing cells but the patients suffer no side effects of typical Chemotherapy patients. They have no pain, infections, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, or fatigue, which is usually the norm. It is absolutely extraordinary! The therapy is delivered at home and the patients can even learn how to treat themselves by placing the electrodes on like bandages. They can go about living their regular life without the trips to the hospital. TTF also has no interference with computers and electrical equipment unlike the other treatments. The one down side to TTF is that unlike the other treatments, they take a long time to effectively work.

How is it used in cancer treatments?
FDA approved this treatment for terminal brain cancer (GBM). It can also be used in the trunk of the body and are trying to work this for lung cancer. This is used for people with reoccurring cancer. This does take time! It is not a quick process.
Benefits?
Those who use this form of treatment in the trials experienced the same results as chemo patients but had none of the horrible side effects of chemo. They had no pain, nausea or fatigue that chemo patients have. Once the “bandages” are applied the person can go on with their life. They do not have to make frequent trips to the hospital and can learn to attach them by themselves.

With many other treatments and cancer scenarios cell divisions are being done, which in fact adds more cancer cells into the body. TTF actually forces the cells to come back together with a low intensity of electric fields to fight the cancer. By placing this field generator over the possible tumor, the electric charges preventing the actual cell division to occur. This field generator is similar to a band aid with the thought that it just goes over the tumor and does its “magic”. The magic being preventing cell divisions to occur.
3. Sometimes surgery, radiation, and chemo don’t exactly take out the tumor completely so the next thought is to TTF since there has been better results in the many trials done. TTF doesn’t disrupt any tissue or DNA while instead mostly prevents more cell division from occurring. With other treatments most times it only occurs for short term which is unlike TTF, which is considered to be more of a long term healing from cancer. This treatment allows an individual to carry on with their life, closer to normal, once the field generator band aid is attached to outside of the tumor.

3. Firstly, the treatment is non invasive, and eventually can even be performed by the patients themselves. Electrodes are attached to the infected area, but unlike chemo or radiation, the two most common treatments of cancer, there are no harmful side effects. In fact, patients that have done the treatment say they feel virtually nothing! It is an amazing scientific achievement, but I bet there is a catch or else this treatment would be more commonly used around the world. But nonetheless it is a good beacon of hope for the future!

These electric fields stop the cell division process, as they don't allow the proteins to divide cells, and thus stop the spread of cancer cells, and cancer (cells dividing rapidly) itself.
Considering this treatment compared to other treatments, it is vastly different in the way that people can still live their daily lives with this treatment (eg, the woman in the video clip that was shown that was still able to do farming activities, and activities of her daily life). Also, the patients who used this treatment during the trial did not deal with the side effects of other common cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy. They received the same results as the patients who underwent the other therapies, and also were able to experience the therapy at home. This therapy has no pain and/or discomfort when compared with other types of traditional cancer treatment, which allows the patient's quality of life to be far better when they are fighting cancer.

An electric field is a force that is similar to gravity. It is not a current or a magnet. It is also not a form of radiation. The electric field acts on the currents and preexisting charges, such as polarization would do.
ReplyDeleteElectric charges are powerful tools when dealing with cancer. This tool is able to prevent cancer cells from dividing. Because of the electric charge the protein in the cell cannot provide the correct pair ordering necessary to continue growth. This way the cell can be stopped, causing the cancer to stop as well.
There are a lot of benefits to this treatment over others, such as chemo. The pain and infections that come along with chemo are not a problem with TTF’s. Also, there isn’t any nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation with this. The patient is able to resume daily life. TTF’s do not interfere with computers as some may believe. With this treatment they don’t need to go to the hospital on a regular basis like they do with chemo.

Some benefits from this method of cancer treatment could be listed as it is relatively simple to use, allows for patience to continue their day whilst being treated and has no recorded negative effects which is a much better alternative totheside effects of chemo and radiation

I believe this is one of the best procedures to treat cancer I have ever seen. It it painless, does not disrupt a patient's daily activities and has very minimal side affects. Besides having TTFs attached to their head, these people barely have to go to anything to get rid of their cancer. I don't see any downfalls to this process.

Patients who participated in this treatment did not suffer through any of the side effects accompanying chemo or other harsh treatments. In his ted talk, Bill Doyle introduced the story of a famous bicyclist who was diagnosed with GDM. He is another success story, who was able to continue enjoying his life with the treatment. He has lived 5 years after being diagnosed and he is very healthy. Another benefit is that the patients are able to learn how to perform the procedures in their own home. It has helped many patients, and is a great choice for many people.

ReplyDeleteScientists are able to create an electric field, which Bill Doyle refers to as the tumor treating field and it prevents the cancerous cells from dividing their DNA strands. When unable to divide the DNA, the cancerous cells have no means of reproducing because mitosis is disrupted.
The tumor treating fields don't affect normal cells which helps the patient retain their health in all other aspects, whereas other cancer treatments can harm a patient's overall well-being. It seems to be a perfect solution to cure cancer, it is painless and proven.

This treatment does not affect the normal dividing cells. The treatment from the tumor treating fields doubled the life-expectancy; same as the traditional cancer treatments, but did not suffer from any of the side effects of pain, infection, nausea, and many others.

GBM is a nasty brain cancer and with Tumor Treating Fields they didn't suffer any of the side effects like diarrhea, nausea, etc. that most of the patients do when experiencing chemotherapy. The electrodes are non invasive and they're attached to the skin and area of the tumor. The patients can learn how to put on the "bandages" by themselves and can go on with their daily life without having to worry about any symptoms that happens once you go through chemotherapy. Also, the therapy is delivered continuously at home instead of having to go to the hospital all the time.

3. Chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery have horrible side effects. These treatments leave patients very sick and attack their healthy cells as well as their cancer cells. The Tumor Treating Field has no side effects. The patient's quality of life is so much better than those undergoing chemotherapy or radiation. This therapy is delivered at home as well so the multiple, and expensive trips to the hospital would be unnecessary. This therapy allows for the patient to continue living with cancer while they are being treated for it, rather than having to stop their whole lives because of the sickness that most cancer treatments deliver.

With a charge, the multiplying cancer cells have a harder time dividing and could take hours to reproduce. This slows down the spread of cancer and some cells might die in the process while others create weak daughter cells which are also warded off.
There are multiple benefits when dealing with this treatment. First, the patient using it can continue on with their daily life without interruption. They don't have to visit the hospital for more treatment as often as chemo or radiation patients. Also, is works without having similar side effects to chemo such as nausea and pain. It also has not had one negative side effect yet or one that I can think of.

ReplyDeleteCancer cells spread rapidly by dividing and growing throughout the body at a quick pace. These cells contain a gel called cytoplasm. Cytoplasm has electrical charges and currents in it. The way scientists treat cancer with this technology is they use fields around the cancerous cells, and place a charge on them. This slows the speed with which they can reproduce, and makes the cells that do end up spreading much weaker.
Using this treatment has several advantages over the traditional treatments for cancer. First off, it is much more convenient than radiation as it is much less hard on the body and is much less time consuming. Additionally, it eases the suffering of those that have to endure such treatments by cutting down on unwanted side effects.

ReplyDeleteThe scientists are able to create an electrical field called Tumor Treating Fields. When this charge is in effect, the high protein cancer cells are affected by the charge. This slows down the rapid division of the cells enough that the older ones die off cause they don't have time to reproduce.
The benefits of this treatment are extreme. Instead of doing abrasive and harmful treatments like radiation, people can have this treatment and feel no side effects! It can also be done in the comfort of your own home so you wouldn't have to even go to the hospital.

An electric field is a field of forces very similar to gravity. These forces are created because of the charge of an object is either repelled, attracted, or neutral. Gravity is very similar, the space station and earth have a gravitational attraction that attract each other.
ReplyDeleteScientist send charges into the body, creating an electric field, which stops the cell it is targeting. What happens is the cell can't create any proteins because of the amount of charge so it cannot create any daughter cells, stopping the growth. The cells either create unhealthy cells that die.
I believe that the pros to this method is not having the side-effects of traditional cancer treatment. Traditional cancer treatments attack the whole body while this new way of fighting cancer only attacks the cancerous part of the body.

ReplyDeletescientists have recently started to treat tumors with electric charges by sending charges into the body making the electric field. With this, this cell cannot make any proteins because of the charge preventing further cells to be created.
The new methods of treating tumors are much better than other methods because it does not come with the hard side effects, its much easier on the body and is easy to fit into ones schedule.

ReplyDeleteThe scientists were able to create an electric field inside of a human body and focus it just on the cancerous area instead of the entire body like other cancer treatments. This makes it so the cancerous cell is unable to create more cancerous cells by stopping it from creating more protiens.
This method is superior because it is non-invasive and the patient can move about while it is active instead of going to a hospital to get treatment. It is not dangerous like radiation treatment and it can target a very small area.

ReplyDeleteExternally placed transducers create electric fields in the body to prevent cancer cells from reproducing and making the cancer greatly worse.
This treatment seems to be more simple to me than the cures that are currently being used. The person using it is not stuck in a hospitle like they would be for other cures and there arnt side effects in this one like some of the unwanted ones in kemo and other cures.
An electric field is much like a gravitational field in the sense that forces are acting on other forces. The electric field attracts bodies with other charges, and also repels bodies as well.
ReplyDeleteScientists use the fields in cancer treatment by sending electrons into the cancer spot creating an electric field and yielding any other proteins to be synthesized or created. This ultimately stops the cancer from spreading which will buy a lot of time, assuming that the cancer hasn't spread too much up to that point.
Though this is no true cure to cancer, it is a step in the right direction. Many methods have been used to treat cancers yet cancer is still greatly prevalent in the world today, which leads one to believe that new methods should be adopted and progression towards a final cure should be promoted. The electron field method has shown no side effects thus far, but is still going to need to be tested, and improved.

Some benefits of this treatment would be that it has none of the side effects that come with other treatments and it does not have any effect on normal cells, treating only the cancerous ones.

ReplyDeleteScientist put transducers on the outside to create a field. when the cell is in the field it is then prevented from reproducing, or the reproduction process is a lot slower. then after that there wont be as many cells. the older cells then start to die off and the cancer slowly goes away.
One major benefit of this type of treatment is that there is not really too many harmful side effects. this means that unlike in other treatments that regular cells are not affected. Also compared to radiation you do not get any of those terrible side effects.

ReplyDeletenodes are taped on the patient over the area where the cancer is. the nodes make an electric field that makes the highly charged proteins inside the cells line up in such a way where they cannot chain together. this prevents the chromosomes in the middle of the cell to be pulled apart in order to create more cells. these cells that cannot reproduce either die or self destruct, which prevents the cancer from growing.
Benefits of this treatment vs. radiation and chemotherapy are that the patient doesn't feel any side effects like dizziness, nausea, fatigue, aches and pains, etc. the treatment promises a much higher quality of life when compared to the other treatments.

This method is better than radiation therapy because it doesn't have as harsh of side effects which allows for a fast recover. The treatment allows patients to do activities which other do not.

Tumor treating fields use externally placed transducers to create an artificial electric field. The forces act on the charged proteins within the cell. This process prevents the proteins from splitting apart and pulling the chromosomes into different directions to split the cell.
Chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery have negative side effects. These treatments leave patients sick and attack the healthy cells as well as the cancer cells within their body. The tumor treating field has no side effects and the patient’s quality of life is much better than those undergoing treatments such like chemotherapy and radiation. This therapy is delivered at home as well so multiple trips to the hospital for care would be unnecessary. This therapy allows for the patient to continue living with cancer while they are being treated, rather than allowing cancer to have even worse effects on the patient.
